The wall thickness grade of the pipe fittings is indicated by the pipe gauge number, and the commonly used pipe gauge numbers are Sch40 and Sch80. When selecting butt-welded fittings, the fittings shall have the same gauge number as the connected fittings, I .e. the same strength (not the same wall thickness), but only the same wall thickness at the ends of the pipe.

4. flanged pipe fittings

It may be made by casting (not shown), or by screwing or welding. The connection consists of a pair of flanges, a washer and several bolts and nuts. A gasket is placed between the sealing surfaces of the two flanges.
